Yesterday was such a long day! I'm so glad I had today off. We had three women go into labor. And with only 5 midwives on staff, we were WAY behind. We pulled through though. We always do! As hard and hectic as my job gets at times, I still love it! I love watching the young couples come in, just beaming. They're starting their family! It's so exciting! And then I see the older women coming in who've done it a time or 4 with all their advice for the younger set. And even though they have already been through it all; the labor and delivery, the diapers and sleepless nights, they're still beaming at least as much as the younger couples. They know how much of a blessing children are. Oh gosh! I can hardly wait!
Anyway after a night of much needed sleep, I made up my mind that I would do nothing that I didn't absolutely want or need to do. Bridget (my baby Corgi) woke me up at ten till 7:00 though. She needed to be let outside. Please tell me why God didn't give dogs opposable thumbs so they could let themselves out?
Well, since I was already up I figured I'd stay up and make the most of my day. So I started the coffee pot. I broke out the good stuff. My mom had given me some Gevalia Moca Java coffee a week ago and I hadn't even opened it yet. Let me tell you, it beats Folger's by a long shot! While that was brewing I thought I'd might as well get dressed. I felt like being feminine today so I chose my white sundress with pretty little roses all over it. It's very Cath Kidston...only it's not. I probably got it at Walmart or Target. I don't remember. I've had it a while. I tossed my hair up in a scrunchie and sprayed on some warm vanilla sugar. And DING! DING! DING! Coffee time!!! (my coffee pot doesn't really ding...I was just that excited) So I poured myself some coffee and set down with the newspaper. Did you know there's a presidential election this year? :) I flipped to the comics. I know I should really brush up on my candidates but I really didn't feel like being depressed today.
After that, I puttered around the house for a while, listening to some Hanson. Yes! I said HANSON. Got a problem with it? LOL....I was a huge fan of them growing up and I still am. Anyway, I MMMBopped my way through the dishes, putting away the laundry and cleaning out my closet. I really need some new clothes! Then I took Bridget for a walk. She has a yard to play in, but I needed the exercise and she needed the change of scenery. It's really starting to get hot outside lately. Maybe being SUMMER has something to do with that. Duh...We saw some squirrels and birds...chased them. Saw a really cute mail man....resisted the urge to chase him. Saw a woman yelling obscenities at her children. I wanted to smack her. But I just gave her a dirty look. Then she yelled obscenities at me which resulted in a flurry of barking from Bridget. I decided it was time to head back home.
I returned home to a voicemail message from a very handsome man offering to take me to lunch. Yep. It was my daddy. He took me to Olive Garden for soup, salad and breadsticks! YUMM-O! He sat patiently listening to me babble on and on about my week. When I finished, he smiled and told me that he was taking my mother to the Bahamas for their anniversary, but sshhh...don't tell. Oh! I'm so excited for them!!!! This will be their first vacation ALONE since before they had me. He's going to tell her tonight. So, I'm expecting a phone call from a happily hysterical woman screeching something about white sand beaches. I'm really looking forward to it!
After lunch, I curled up on the couch with my sweet puppy and read some out of Scarlet Feather by Maeve Binchy. If you've never read anything by her...you haven't lived! I have a strong urge to make shortbread now.
Well, that was how the first day of summer went for me. How was your day?
